My unabandonable socks are now finished, and the preferred color scheme of the soles can be seen here. This yarn is delightful, and goes a long way. I probably have enough left for yet another pair!

I am now working to finish at least the first of my daughter's Forgotten Knee Socks, as it is resting on my #2 circulars, and I need them for my next pair. Maybe if she sees one lonely little sock laying there, she'll be racked with guilt and ask that I make the other one, too.

I finished my Aran-Braid socks! I have posted a picture of the socks and gone on and on about how much I like them over at Union Center Knits. I want to say thanks for such a fun knit along! Now that I have finished my socks (and my mystery is solved!) I can poke about and see what everyone else has been working on. :)

I'm trying to decide whether to continue the stitch pattern to the top of the foot on my sock (not as written). It's the Koigu PP Ruffle sock and there's a link to a pic in the entry on my blog.

Hi. I decided to pick the pattern call 'Rustic Arrow Socks', I got two ball of purple Sport Weight Wool Ease and starting tonight and I will post progress picture on my Blog in few days. I made a chart from the Pattern and it looks interest patterns. -Esther

I started my mystery socks today!

I'm doing the Koigu Ruffles pattern and I'll post pictures (as a link) when I get further along.

HI all! I'm sneaking in to report I started my mystery sock. I'm doing the Aran Braid sock. I'm using some really nice Cormo Yarn that I dyed myself. It is so soft and I love knitting with it, I just don't know if I love the pattern. But I shall stick to it. I currently have four pairs of socks on my needles. I can't start another one. You can check out my blog if you want to see the start of the Aran Braid sock, knithole. Hope you all are enjoying your socks!

In between baking pies for a pie contest, and going to Borders, I managed to knit the first sock of Pair #2!

This smocked pattern is way cool! Come and take a looky!

Does a pair of odds (2 different patterns) equal a mystery pair???

anyway if you go to my blog (here) you can see the finished mini cabled sock(s).
pattern changed due to last post- when i forgot to turn the heel.

I'm not too fond of this pattern so may change my mind (again!) and start a 3rd mystery sock.

I started my Holey Socks this morning:

Big Boy likes how it's turning out so far...

I finished my mystery socks. They are nothing compared to some of the pretty ones that others are making but I enjoyed the quick and simple knitting. Check them out HERE. The only things that were really a "mystery" about these socks were the toe (which I'd never done or seen before) and the gauge. I've never made socks on size 7 needles before! What they lack in elegance they make up for in instant gratification. They're warm and snuggly too.

Hey guys. I've finished a pair of the Viv's Lacy Socks, pictures and details on my blog. I actually finished these about a week ago, but I've been exceptionally lazy about updates. They turned out VERY soft and comfortable to wear. Hooray for Schaefer Yarn. :) I was a little worried about the mohair content (I usually find mohair itchy), but they're a joy to wear.

It's been a blast participating, and I absolutely love the idea. I may have to start looking for more pictureless patterns!

I have finished the first My-Sock-and-I-Won't-Abandon-It sock. The pattern I used was a simple spiral rib, which, I know, isn't much of a mystery. But the other pictureless patterns at my disposal are being made by others here, and, well, I've had a peek or two. So, the mystery here came from the yarn. This is striping yarn, yes, but the stripes are wonderfully random. I'll post a photo here ASAP.

Wouldn't you know it, my favorite combination of colors is on the bottom of the sock! Well, there's a second one to come --- maybe those colors will appear topside!

SO I started the Elizabethan stockings and knitted about an inch before thinking that they looked kind of big...so I looked back at the needle size and realized that it said 2 mm NOT sz 2. Grrr. So I frogged em back and I have to start again on sz 0 this time...
A couple of things. So far I am loving the Knit Picks Gloss yarn. It is very soft and stretchy enough but not too stretchy(if that makes sense). I won't know for sure until I have knitted with it more, but so far I really like it for a sock yarn. It is much nicer than some of the wool/nylon blends I've used. Did I mention it's really soft?
Also, if anyone else is doing this pattern, there seems to be an error when you get to the decreases. The directions say to decrease every 4th row and then in the example it gives, it has decreases on almost every row. Given that it is the knee decreases that this is for, I assume that I should follow the directions and not the example. I guess I'll find out when I actually get to that point!
Ok, back to casting on...again...

I have selected my next case....

http://www.woolworks.org/patterns/ruthsocks.txt

These are Ruth Gerstner's Smocked socks. (Although she calls them the "sock pattern, sort of") I have decided that since she recommends choosing your favorite foot, heel, and toe method, that I would choose toe up. The recipient of these lovelies want them as long as possible, so toe up is the way to go! I am using Addi size 2 needles, and Gedifra Fashion Trend Sportivo, color 5769. It is a varigated yarn that has two khaki strands twisted with a varigated strand that goes from blue to green to grey, to maroon - very slowly. It's like a "fade in and out" - as my husband said.

I 'll post some pictures when I get to the good stuff, and past the miles of dull for my size 10 friend.

Addios Mystery Gang!

I lied... I'm making this pattern instead:

Holey Socks by Eleanor Gallo-Hendrix.

Well, I started my aran-braid socks! I have a pic in today's post over at my blog. I forgot to say over there, the yarn I'm using is Regia Stretch, in browns and blues. I am enjoying these socks so much, and I see no end to the amusement the braid pattern is providing. I want to put it on everything, lol.

Hello,

I have a question for the Mystery Sock gals. If I design a sock pattern would it qualify for the Mystery Sock Kal? I have a sock pattern in mind but I really don't know how it will look until I knit it. Thus, it would be a mystery to all of us. Do tell me what you think.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Abigail 1870 pearl

Well my fellow MSKAL-ers, my Mystery - at least my first one - has come to an end. I kitchnered last night, and posted some pics on my blog today.

http://costumechick.blogspot.com/2006/08/mystery-socks-are-mystery-no-more.html

I won't post the pic here - keepin' the mystery ya' know.

I'm off to sleuth out another mysterious pattern!

My daughter (14, which figures prominently in the story) loves knee socks. When I signed up for this KAL, I knew I had the perfect kick-start for making a pair, or two, or three, for her.

Ever try to wrangle a teenager over to a computer screen to look at and pick out yarn? Pull some teeth instead. Finally get some yarns chosen. She wants to know about the pattern, which I explain has to be a mystery. Kind of intriguing to her, but mostly she just wants to get back to her anime.

So I wait for the yarn, I find a mystery pattern, and cast on. Daughter, realizing what is going on, announces that she is displeased with how things are going.

Told you 14 played a part.

I have a one-third-finished-sock that no one is going to wear, apparently. This quashes any sock-knitting-desire momentarily, you know? But I'll pull it back together. And pick another mystery pattern, and choose some yarn that is pretty, and make myself a sock.

(Hey, 46 can set a jaw, too!)

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

So my yarn came from Knit Picks...

It is Knit Picks Gloss in color Dusk. It is a really pretty dark blue and I think it will work out nicely for the Elizabethan stockings (I hope anyway!). I am hoping to start them this week, although I am knitting a sweater for my LYS in a knit for yarn trade off, so that is my top priority right now. As long as I get the back done tomorrow, I can reward myself with a little knitting for myself and start these socks!

Hi All

Well I have completed my first mystery sock- (using the leaves of grass pattern) but there is a great big whoops! Check it out HERE. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem without frogging the whole sock will be greatly appreciated.

Garter Lattice Socks from the Knitlist are the "mystery" socks I have decided to knit.

Hello everyone! I had originally planned to make the Leaf Lace (or is it Lace Leaf?) socks or else Viv's Lacy Socks till I saw that these already seemed to be popular choices and I didn't want it to be thought I was just a follow-the-leader, LOL! So I went with my third choice and that is the Garter Lattice. I will probably knit them toe-up, though, and am using handspun wool yarn.

I wanted to say that I agree with Stariel's request that we have a link to photo's of socks so that we can chose whether or not to look at the pattern as it is worked, rather than posting the photos here. That will help keep it a mystery! That said, I am also enjoying seeing all of the lovely socks everyone is knitting. (Speaking of Stariel, check out the neat sock she knit for me in a different Sock-along! You can see it at here at my Serenity Farms blog)

Maybe we could have a set date that after it comes we can begin to post here to this blog?

Thank you for having me at your knit along,

Cary at Serenity Farms

I am having trouble finding a pattern that is done on 2 circulars for a larger calf. I got about 4" done on a nice pattern but it was way too narrow so I frogged and added an amount of extra stitches to do the pattern and they are way too big! I have to frog them too. Any suggestions for larger calf size 8 1/2 wide foot?

TIA <><

Well, I've finally decided on the ever-popular Leaves of Grass pattern. I'll be using Dale of Norway Tiur in color 8533, which is a nice grassy green. I hope to cast on soon and expect to finish the socks by the deadline, not within a couple of days after declaring my intentions. I'm a slow knitter. So we'll see how it goes. Happy knitting, everyone!

Friday, August 18, 2006

Hi! I'm Tam and this is my first time posting for the KAL. I have started my mystery socks using THIS pattern. It seemed mysterious enough to be a surprise to me and it seemed like it would go quick since it uses two strands of worsted weight yarn held together. Here is my progress so far:
I am using some very nice alpaca yarn that I got from Elann. I hope it's not too itchy! Yes, I am oh so skillfully using 3 dpns and 1 set of circular needles. I couldn't find enough size 7 dpns to make a set. I usually only use dpns this size to make I-cord (only using 2 at a time) so the sets tend to get separated and never reunited. Hence the added circular.

I'm enjoying everyone else's posts and hope to have some serious progress to show after the weekend.

Hello everyone! I'm new and haven't posted yet. I've been looking for a sock pattern that doesn't call for worsted weight yarn. I really like knitting my socks with fingering weight. Seems like all the ones without pictures are chunkier weight socks. So I decided to knit the Aran-braid socks and make them longer, I'm not fond of ankle socks. Hopefully I won't see anybody's before I'm done. I like the idea of it being a surprise. I think to ensure that, I will just check back in when I have my first one done. It may be a while since I have four pairs of socks on my needles currently. Yikes! Happy knitting!

My Mystery Sock is done :) I think I might do another if I can find a pattern with out a picture that I think I'll like, we'll see. this was super fun!!!

I haven't introduced myself yet: Hi, I'm Becka! My plan is to make this:

into the Socka Sock socks! Eventually... Thank you msubulldog for the generous time frame!

I cast on for my Leaves of Grass sock on Monday.

A photo and short synopsis are in my blog here.

Also, I think there's an error in the pattern. Has anyone else noticed that the P3 on row 8 of the lace pattern should probably be changed to P2? I ended up with an extra stitch on the lace panel the first time around so I changed it to P2 for the following sets. I'm 12 repeats into my first sock and the pattern seems to be fine with that small change. I'd be curious to know if the rest of you are doing the same thing or if you had success with the P3.

-Amanda

Okay, I think I've finally decided! (decisions are hard!) I'm gonna try the Leaves of Grass pattern and I think I'll use some hand-dyed Knitpicks yarn that my friend gave me for my birthday:

I know what you're thinking. It's not exactly . . . leave-ish. But I've really been wanting to try the yarn, so we'll see how it goes.

Okay, so I like Stariel's idea of just posting links to your progress pics (at least for awhile) so that folks who haven't started/finished yet can retain a little mystery for their socks-to-come. Maybe we'll have a show & tell towards the end when it can be a picture posting free for all! :) Actually, I'd like to make some photo collages of all the sock styles (one page of all the Aran Braids, for example).

I know not everyone has a blog, so if you're totally dying to post your socks, that's what this is for, and I don't really feel like I should keep you from doing so. But if you can help to suspend the mystery for the others for a little while longer, I'm sure it'd be appreciated! *grin*

And I am just starting my socks tonight, so I'm totally in awe of all you speedy needles out there! You rock!!:)

Can I make a suggestion? Don't hate me! Could we have everyone post links to their photos instead of the actual photo on the blog? Because this is supposed to be all mysterious and everything, and for those of us who haven't started our socks we might want to keep the pattern a mystery!

Now, as for me, I'm going to start my mystery socks pretty soon. My friend borrowed my ball winder, so I'm going to wait til I get it back from her, then wind my yarn and begin. I've decided to do the Koigu Ruffles pattern.

Mystery sock #1 complete and....

I hate it. The pattern looks like the eighties to me. I don't know if it's the geometric feel of it, or the poofiness, or what. But I don't get it. It has no cohesiveness to me. And I made the foot too small. And the ribbed shaping on the sole comes to late to be arch shaping. I don't know... I'm so disappointed, I don't think I'll make the second one. Maybe I'll search around for another pattern. Or maybe I'll just do the Aran braid. Not much of a mystery anymore, but I love how everyone's have turned out.

Details:

Pattern: Obstacle sock (pattern off the knitlist)
Yarn: Sundara sport merino, in "Denim" (love the yarn, btw)
Needles: inox dpns, US 1/2

I'm feeling a bit like the Tortoise here - this is my first post and I still haven't picked out a pattern yet, but I felt like I should finally post since everyone is making such fantastic progress! I'm trying to find a pattern for 8 sts/ inch with an 8.5" foot circumference - for my mum - so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love 'em forever ;D

Well, I have one finished. Now I am on a hiatus until I finish my friend's last minute wedding shawl. I really need to get the Cast on done for the second sock, then I will be able to pick it up and whip out a few rows when the mood strikes. Besides, I'm getting to the part of the shawl with the REALLY LONG rows, and I hate stopping in the middle of a row... so socks are a good filler project for the occasional 15 minute knitting opportunity. anyhoo, on to the pics!

Messy desk and dirty carpet. How nice.
I really am enjoying this pattern - it is a really quick knit. It is another Viv's Lacey Socks, in Brown Sheep Wildefoot. I am knitting it with no modifications, so what you see is what you get!
BTW - I love everybodies finished products! Y'all are awsome!

I'm moving right along! I think I have about 3 more repeats before I start the heel. This is the Knit List Get-Together Cable Sock in Caron Simply Soft (Country Blue). I've tries it on a couple of times and wish it was a bit bigger but I think it will be ok.

Diana

Hello,

Yesterday, I got the bug and started on my mystery socks - they went really fast with Merino 2000 from Lana Grossa. It's not really a sock yarn, but since those were the last two balls from a frogged huge cardigan (the others ended up a lovely baby blanket, LOL) and I mean to wear them around the house for toasty toes only, it's fine.

The pattern is the shell sock pattern from knitaddicted.com

It was an interesting experiment, and I'll certainly try this again in the future. But first, once the yarn finally arrives, another pair of Baudelaire's for my mother and then Eunny's Chuck's Cabled Socks

Well, I'll keep checking in to see how everyone else's have turned out and maybe I'll add another mystery sock to the list if I come across an intriguing pattern.

Tuesday, August 15, 2006

I've finished my Mystery Socks. I posted a picture of one earlier (I got excited to have one done), but now they are both done. These are great socks and I can see myself making another pair. I would recommend them to any other sock lovers out there. I sometimes get bored doing the foot because it is the same thing over and over again. This sock keeps it interesting by continuing the cable down the foot until you start the toe. A lot of fun to make, and a good looking sock too.

Thanks for doing this KAL. I found a great new sock, and am hoping to find more as people post their finished socks.

Hi its Michelle-Nicholle From San Francisco. I had to change everything that I had decided on because the yarn was just too small. I would have been at it forever. I kept the pattern but changed the yarn and I'm much happier. I think I may change the leg to Lacy Sock to give a little flair.

I think I've decided on my pattern. I believe I will make Obstacle Socks from Knitlist. I followed the rules and did not click on the link to the picture!! I may use some Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Rainbow, but I'm not sure yet! (That's the thing about knitting something that you don't know what it looks like -- how will the yarn suite it?) I have a couple of things to finish up before I start these.

Sheri, Just in the Knit of Time

Hi! My name is Nyasha from darnkit, and I am still deciding on my pattern of choice. As this will be my second pair of socks, it really is a mystery whether or not they will even come out right.

I have a few choices and they are as follows:

a) Knit List cabled sock pattern

b) Mini Cabled Socks

c) Mock Cable Socks

d) Leaves of Grass

I have enough yarn to do any of these patterns. So, once I make up my mind, I will let you know.

Hi all! I'm Joni of Union Center Knits. I believe I have finally chosen my pattern.... I'll be knitting the Aran Braid Socks posted to the Knit List by Kathleen Hubbard in 1997. I have never seen the socks, and there is no picture with the pattern as it's posted where I found it so I believe they qualify as mysterious. :) Now, off to figure out what yarn to use....

Esther/Packof9--I need your email address to sign you up! Thanks.

Okay, that's it, everyone. We're finished with new signups, so please check the sidebar to make sure your name and link (if you have a blog) are there and correct. Please let me know if there are any changes I need to make.

Let the fun begin!

I've finished one of Viv's Lacy Socks, and it seems to have turned out reasonably well. I have to say, after seeing pictures of the Aran Braid socks, I almost wish I'd done those instead!

The pattern is relatively simple, although the first read-through was a little confusing. I changed the heel to make it a reinforced heel, but I did keep the toe. It's quite possibly the longest toe I've ever knit - I think I prefer a shorter one. All in all, a cute little pattern, but probably not memorable enough to make a second pair from.

I had orignally thought about doing the Aran Braid sock but after seeing how many people were doing those I changed my mind. After trawling the net for a while I have decided on Grown-Up Wonky Lace Socks. I chose these as a) wonky sounds like Wonka, which equals chocolate. and b) i've been meaning to use Cascade Fixation for a while and now I have a reason. I won't be starting mine for a couple of weeks yet, just as well as I haven't got the yarn yet. Now which colour(s) do I choose.

Hi, I just signed up today - and I am excited to rediscover one of the patterns that I have passed on in the past due to lack of a picture.
I was thinking of this pattern: Sara's Treasure Forest Socks (pdf)
I've had it printed for awhile, but I never did it because it only has a sketch, not a real photo of what they look like.
Anyone have any input on whether they think this would count?

Thanks!
StarzAbove

I've started! I'm using Addis #3 DPNs for the cuff and then changing to #5 Boye circulars. I haven't used DPNs in a while so I hope I remember how! LOL. I'm really hoping to be able to finish them before the end of the KAL. As a reminder, I'm making the Knitlist Get-together Cable Sock in Caron Simply Soft (yes it's acrylic but I don't think I'll wear them outside of the house.) Wish me luck!

Diana

Here are a couple more that look good courtesy of the Wayback Machine:
Mock Cable Socks
Lacy Sock Pattern
I'd love to see what these look like, and I'm thinking of trying the Lacy Socks. Sounds like they have a Picot top even though they don't call it that and I've never done one so it might be an added challenge. I think I need to stop looking at patterns now!

Yea! I've been out of town for a while, but I finished my first sock. I chose the Aran Braid pattern, and I just finished the first one. I really like this pattern. I love the heel; it is a bit different from any heel that I've done before and I really like the way it looks, I will be doing this heel again. I also like the way the braid from the ankle carries through on the foot, although it is smaller. all in all a good sock and it will be a pleasure to do the other one as well.

Hi I am Penny from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. I just joined last night. I have found five patterns without photos and finally made my choice. I will also be doing Leaves of Grass. I went into my stash and found the yarn I will use. It is yarn from a shop called Camille's that has recently closed. It is a yarn from a farm in Manitoba. I have taken a photo but the color may not look as green as it is. On my camera and in the computer it has come out way more blue. I don't know how to take the photo to have it look more like the color it is. I also don't know how to edit it on the computer either. Sorry about that. I am really looking forward to this. I too tend to shy away from patterns without photos so this should be fun especially since I won't be doing this alone.
Penny

Today is the last day to sign up for the KAL, so if you think you might be interested, or if you have friends you've been "working on", make sure to get in by midnight PST! I'd love to keep it open longer, but I need time to knit instead of managing the blog, so I have to have a deadline.
We have just passed the ONE HUNDRED KNITTERS mark in our little knitalong! How exciting is that?!? Wahoo! :)

Hi! I just got my invite & here I am, joining at the last minute! I'm Anastacia & I'm a socknitting addict. I've knitted up some mystery socks before, I'll have to try to find the photos I've taken. Thanks for letting me join, I'll have to figure out what I'm going to knit pretty soon!

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica. I have been searching for period patterns and I finally found a pattern for elizabethan stckings without a picture, so I think I am going to do those.I found them at webzoom.freewebs.com/bessdarnley/Stockings.pdf I haven't decided on what yarn I am going to use yet. I am waiting on an order from knit picks with some of their new gloss sock yarn, so I may wait until that arrives, since all the sock yarn in my stash is fairly colorful. (my lorna's in watercolor might be a bit too bright for elizabethan stockings don't you think?) If my order is here by friday, I will CO on the way to the Bristol Ren Faire. How perfect would that be?! Anyway, I can't wait to get started and see what everyone else comes up with!

Sunday, August 13, 2006

Hi everyone,
I found this to be such a cool idea for a KAL that I've been spending WAY too much time looking at patterns without pictures! I want to pick something that hasn't been "claimed" yet to add to more diversity. So many patterns I've clicked on had broken links and then I remembered the Wayback Machine, with this search you can put in a link and it pulls up an archived copy of the site. So, I'm wondering is this ok for the KAL? These patterns once had pictures but no longer do because they are no longer hosted. We could bring some of them back from the dead so to speak and what could be more mysterious? I'm thinking of Laurie B's Koigu Ruffles. Anyway, let me know, I would think this would be acceptable but just in case... Looking forward to seeing some of these socks competed.

My name is Stephanie and I'm from Oregon. I've never done a mystery KAL before so I'm am really looking forward to this. I decided to do the Leaves of Grass Anklet and use sock yarn from my ever growing stash.

Looking forward to seeing others mystery socks.

My mystery socks are DONE!!! And they fit me perfectly! I had so much fun with this, I may have to do it again....IF I ever get done with all the other socks I want to knit....:)

Hey there! This is Heide checking in on the Mystery Sock KAL regarding the rules. I'm making up a pattern while I knit it. Does this count as a mystery pattern? I honestly have no idea what in the heck this will look like or if it will even be wearable. If if doesn't count then I'll find an internet pattern. Cheers all!

Hello! My name is Jen and I'm from Texas. I haven't a clue as to what pattern I'm going to use yet. I'm a little nervous about this whole no-picture thing, but I'm up for the challenge!

Friday, August 11, 2006

Hi everyone! I'm Sheri from Nova Scotia. I have never knit a pair of socks without seeing a picture of them first, so this will prove to be interesting! I haven't picked out a pattern or yarn yet. I have some Lorna's Laces in my stash I may use that I don't really have plans for yet. Now to get pattern hunting!

Thursday, August 10, 2006

Hi, I'm Sarah (aka LaCane for those of you Knittyboarders). I've chosen Viv's Lacy Socks
as my project, and I'm using this:

as my chosen yarn. I absolutely love Schaefer yarns, so I'm looking forward to making these! I'll be casting on tomorrow, barring any yarn disasters. I can't wait to see what we all end up with.

Hello! I'm Lisa from Mississippi, and I think this is going to be great fun. I've picked out Leaves of Grass socks too. It just sounds like a fun pattern. I have some green and yellow variegated yarn from knit picks that I am going to use. Hopefully, this pattern will look good with variegated yarn, but I guess I won't know until I try! :o) I'm looking forward to seeing all the Mystery Socks!

Lisa in Mississippi

Hello! My name is Deb and I live in Michigan. I've been reading mysteries lately so it seems a natural progression to knit a mystery. I'll be knitting Leaves of Grass -- I am fond of Walt Whitman and don't care for tall socks. My yarn will be from the stash and, since I don't have anything green, I'll have to go with something reminiscent of fall leaves of grass! Happy to be knitting along with all of you.

Deb

Hi. Sandra from Regina, Saskatchewan. I've never knit a sock without seeing it first and being very visual, I often use the picture to work out the pattern so this will be a challenge. Now to find a pattern.....

Oh me, Oh my! I was worried about being late to get started, and so many people have posted already!

My name is Jennie, and I live in the coalfield region of Virginia (waaaaay down by Kentucky). I dug around a little and found a bunch of patterns I like idea of, but because I'm crazy, I chose the "obstacle sock" from the knitlist. It seems like I'm tempting fate with a name like that, but...

I'm still thinking about yarn. I've got a bunch of stuff in my stash I need to use up. But first, I need to get my current pair of socks off-the-needle. Then I'll dig in.

Happy Knitting!

Good morning everyone,

I'm Bettina and I live in Jimena in Spain. After lots of deliberation, I have decided on the Shell Sock from Knitaddicted.com. I've ordered the yarn, but it is on backorder, so I probably won't get to start until next month. It's Lana Grossa Boot Sock yarn, and I've ordered four different colours, since I do need to knit quite a few socks before Christmas.

Congratulations to all of you who have already started. So far, this experiment seems to work out great and the socks all look fantastic.

Talk to you soon once I have some actual news on the sock front.

Hi everyone, this is Molly in Michigan. I've decided to do the Aran Braid (like so many others), I'm going to use Knit Picks Essential in Fawn. I am finishing up a pair of Jaywalkers right now--I just have to finish the toe so I hope to start this project tonight. I'm looking forward to finding many more socks to make based on all the pictures I see here. I died some merino with Kool-Aid last weekend (my first attempt at dying) and it turned out so great I can't wait to try a pair of socks with it. I'm looking for some great ideas from everyone.

Hi my name is Michelle and I just started my mystery sock. I knitting up "Ocean Socks." It is a nice pattern and I think it will hold my interest long enough to finish the second sock. I had hoped to have a photo to show. As I see my post now no photo uploaded. Could the sock appear by magic? Who knows. I plan on posting a photo on my blog so if no photo shows up you could click on my blog. Well back to knitting I think the ocean is calling. Happy knitting :)

HI everyone. I started my Mystery sock. The Pattern is called Shell Sock. This KAL is going to be fun, I always pass up patterns with no pictures! Posted by Picasa

Hi everyone! I'm Joanna in Philadelphia, and I to am going to try the Aran Braid sock pattern.

I haven't gotten my yarn yet but plan on ordering it next week after my mom's wedding (which is this Saturday!) I'm leaning strongly toward using KnitPicks' Essential Tweed in Inca Gold. However a trip to my LYS could change that plan :)

Hello! My name is Beverly and I live in Oklahoma City. I will be making the aran braid socks too. It seems to be a popular pattern! Looks like we will have several mini KALs within this. How fun. I bought some Fortissima Socka yarn in a nice, solid maroon for the socks. I'm multitasking too and am planning these to be a Christmas present for my mom. I'm glad you decided on a November deadline....maybe I won't be knitting Christmas morning - wait - scratch that...I probably still will be, but just not on these socks! Before I start, I've got to figure out how to adjust to fit my mom's size 9 wide feet. (ugh) Happy knitting everyone!

Hello everyone,

My name is Amanda. I'm presently on vacation and I envision knitting a ton of socks. I think I'm the third one to post now who plans on making the Leaves of Grass socks.

I'm using a colorway named Green Gables that I ordered from Spunky Eclectic.

green gables

I plan on starting as soon as my yarn arrives which should be any day now.

Hi there! My name is Anna, I'm in St. John's, Newfoundland. I am so excited about this KAL! It is such a great idea to turn something a little boring into something mysterious, fun and exciting! I can't wait to see how all our socks turn out! I have finally settled on Kathleen Hubbard's Aran-braid socks from the Wool Works site. And I just ordered the yarn from Simply Socks. To save on shipping I ordered these four yarns (and it had nothing to do with that I couldn't decide, and that I get this urge that I want it all =)
They are: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Sherbet; Cascade Fixation Effects 9349; Cascade Fixation Spraydyed 9939 and Fleece Artist Merino in Cornflower. When they arrive I will decide which one to use. I can't wait!!

I don't know if I ever said which pattern I chose. It's the Holey Sock from Eleanor Gallo-Hendrikx, aka Ellie's Eyelet Sock, and it's really pretty so far! I'm doing it in KnitPicks Simple Stripes. It's a very easy to memorize pattern, although the ribbing threw me off for a bit...lol I WAS making these for a friend, but they're looking so nice, I might just be making ME a pair of socks for once!!!! There's a picture on my blog - I was going to put one here but Blogger kept blowing up. :(

Hi I'm Zonda and I've decided on Ocean Socks. As for the yarn I do have a few ideas. These probably won't even be started until mid September or later as too many other WIP's. I almost didn't join as I am such a visual person, I mean that is how I re-learned knitting online LOL! But I had a few enablers tell me I could do it! ;)

Sounds like this will be a challenge and fun for all! :)

My name is Miki and I will be knitting Leaves of Grass Anklet Socks from KnitList.

That is, after I finish up my Prairie Tunic, Bubby, and a layette set for a friend's soon to be born baby boy.

I am finding it very interesting as to what everyone is knitting, please post progress photos!

It has been pointed out by a few participants that sometimes Blogger invites get swallowed by email accounts or tossed out as spam. I have been adding new knitters on a daily basis, so if you requested an invite to the KAL and did not receive one within two days, please let me know (just comment here) and I will resend. So far, I have 18 knitters who have not yet responded to their invitations (not bad considering there are over 75 of us!).
Thanks!

Hi all! The pattern I decided to make is called Mock Cable Socks from Bronwynn's Hobby Pages. I'm using Anne by Schaeffer yarn in a purple colorway. I don't know how to make a link without copying and pasting, I'll look it up tomorrow when I post a picture of the yarn I'm going to use. I'm excited about this, I have always avoided these Mystery Patterns in the past. It's going to be great to see them knit up! I'll end this now, we're getting a thunderstorm which means our internet connection will probably go out.

Hi!! I'm another Karen and I just decided on a pattern today. I'll be knitting Texture and Lace Socks using Hill Country Instant Gratification Sock yarn in Sand Stone (for Project Spectrum August also - love a knit that counts in two KALs!!). I have a pair of socks on the needles now, but as soon as I finish them up, I'll be starting on these. I never would have chosen this pattern because it doesn't have a picture - so it was a fun twist to now be choosing it for that very reason!! Happy knitting.

Hi, I'm Shannan. I've decided on a pattern but haven't decided on which yarn I'm going to use yet. The pattern I've picked, is Leaves of Grass Anklet Socks. I'm not much of an anklet person, so I'm going to be making the leg longer.

I'll hopefully be using one of these yarns (first pic is Step and second is from Spirit Trail Fiberworks). Since I can't decide, I'll do a gauge swatch on each. Which ever one matches gauge is the one I'll use.

I won't be starting for at least a week or so. I've got a couple of socks on the needles already and I want to get them done first.

Hi! I'm Diana and I've finally decided on the KnitList Get-Together Cable Sock. I hope I don't get kicked out for this but I'm using Caron Simply Soft (I know, I know! But I am short of money right now and I don't have an LYS close by.) I'll just be using these as house shoes/socks so the acrylic might not be to bad. I did fine a pretty blue color so I hope that will make up for it.

I won't be able to start until the 13th when I come home from my parents.

Diana

Hi my name is Emma. I've decided to make the Lacy Sock pattern in Knit Picks WotA in their new Sapphire Heather colorway. Hopefully I ordered it with enough time for it to get here before my camping trip next weekend. I can't imagine anything better than camping at Mt Rainier and knitting socks.
I don't know about you but I had the hardest time deciding on a pattern. I ordered extra yarn so I might try the Ocean socks as well.

Hi my name is Michelle-Nicholle. I finally decided on Wendy's toe-up sock pattern and this yarn that I found in my stash. I have had my eye on it for socks for a long time now. So this was the perfect KAL for it.

Monica here. I started my sock too. I usually skip right over sock patterns without pictures, so I thought this would be interesting and fun. I didn't even look at the patterns before choosing. I just clicked on the link, closed my eyes and pointed to one on the screen. It might as well be a true mystery. Anyway, the sock I am knitting is Judy Passman's Lacy Sock I am knitting it in Mountain Colors Bearfoot. It is a super simple lace pattern. The pattern calls for LP Superwash, but I didn't want a worsted wt sock, so I am using the bearfoot and just adjusted the # of stitches cast on.
Happy knitting all.

Hello. My name is Casey and I cant wait. I am starting today with these. I am making http://www.woolworks.org/patterns/lacysocks.txt, I just finished particpating in the One Skein exchange and got a lovely green sock yarn that I will be using. Off to Cast on.

Casey

Hello everybody!
I can't resist a KAL, let alone a SOCK KAL! I'm planning to knit Viv's Lacey Socks from knitlist. I've swatched on size 1 needles, using Wildefoot yarn in a lovely varigated shades of red colorway. I finished early on a couple of projects, so I might have these next on the needles.

Ok. It's no the best picture, but it's something! The sun was REALLY bright the day I took this picture. In real life the colors are a little less pink.

I look forward to seeing everybody's progress!

It looks like folks are itching to get started, so feel free to get going! I will still keep signups open until August 14, so if you want to join (or you are still trying to talk friends into joining with you), there's still time. *smirk*

I'll be placing an asterisk (*) next to your name when you've completed your socks, but there's no rush--the KAL doesn't end until November. I know there's still a lot of summer knitting going on, myself included, so if you're not ready to start your socks don't worry.

With that said, I have chosen the Summer Garden Socks. It is a striped sock (sort of) using two colors of yarn and a garter stitch cuff with some texture thrown in for good measure. It's totally different construction than anything I've done before, so it will be exciting. Because of the colorwork, it may also turn out to be terribly ugly, but I'm hoping by using subdued colors (some earthy Koigu KPPPM), I'll come out of it with something really unique and beautiful. I hope. Eeeeeek! Here goes!

Hi, I'm Rachel, and I haven't even started my socks yet, but I think I'll be doing the Holey Socks from the Woolworks site. They look interesting, and I can't wait to get started!

Hi! My name is Karen. I guess I'm the first to post my socks. I chose the Rustic Arrow Socks pattern. I'm pretty well pleased with how they turned out, but I do have a couple issues. The 3 pattern repeats (the pattern called for) were definitely not enough (they have a short leg area). If anyone else chooses this pattern, do at least 1 or 2 more repeats. And they are a little loose in the leg area also (yes I did get gauge) and my legs are by no means thin (I am a plus size woman). I used Knit Picks Merino Style in the Cornflower colorway instead of the suggested WoolEase. I'm thinking I may try more of these patterns (since I'm over my initial hesitation of knitting a pattern without a picture). Thanks for a great KAL, this was fun knitting outside the box!
