Mystery Socks Revealed!

Hmmmm.....38 socks out of 108 knitters. That's 35%. Not so hot, but more than a third of us finished, so I'm happy about that! :)
I removed myself and Katrina from the drawing and wound up with 36 knitters. Random.org chose # 30 & #2 (yes, in that order--it's random, ya know). Those numbers matched with Sara & Angie! Congratulations!
So, Sara & Angie, if you'll email me your snail mail addresses, I'll get your goodies packed up and off to you. (amandaATthe-woodruffsDOTnet) I will post a picture of the prize packages as soon as I get some good light around here! :)

Also, I wanted to thank everyone for stretching your boundaries a little, pushing the comfort zone, and knitting something without a pattern! It was a tad scary--and we didn't all like what we wound up with--but I think it was fun. :) I will be setting up the Mystery Sock archive pages this week and will announce when they're ready!

well, i didn't make it...after knitting furiously this week while trying to get all the pre-thanksgiving prep done i still only have half a sock finished. i still feel like i won, though, because my purpose for joining was to get out of my comfort zone and take a chance on a pictureless pattern, and i ADORE the pattern that i chose (ruth gerstner's smocked socks, pattern here) and will definitely be finishing these, then knitting them again in a non-variegated yarn since the pattern would definitely be cuter in a solid or semi-solid. i also think it's wonderful that costume chick's version and mine seem to look different, because it shows how a pictureless pattern can be interpreted differently by different knitters. i'll post a photo as soon as i can get my camera charged, even though they won't count within the deadline.

I'm done! I also used the Shell Socks pattern. I thought it was a really easy pattern and turned out nicely in the self striping yarn I used (Vesper in Strange Little Mama). I changed the heel a little and made the cuff a little shorter, but overall it was a good pattern.

Sorry the picture isn't better. I just realized I never took a picture yesterday, and everyone is asleep here, so I had to sneak around looking for a spot with decent enough lighting.

I actually finished my mystery socks by Halloween, but I didn't send a picture! The pattern was called Shell Socks, and I expected something very different. At least the pattern was an easy one to remember and they went pretty fast. I used Knit Picks Memories yarn in the color Yukon. Even though they're not very intriguing, they are REALLY comfy and warm. Sometimes you can't have it all!

The Deadline Approacheth . . .

Are you ready? The Mystery Sock KAL deadline is this Thursday, November 23rd--American Thanksgiving--at midnight PST.

There will be two prizes awarded in a random drawing of all the finished sock knitters. So, if your name doesn't have an asterisk next to it--then get those socks done! (If the asterisk is missing due to fault on my part, just send me an email.) *grin*
Oh, and by the way, don't forget to post a picture either here or on your blog--I need proof, folks! :)

Ok so here is my question... I got side tracked playing sock wars and killing others off. There was no picture of that pattern....so since I knitted three pairs does that count? I am starting the sock I was supposed to knit now but just in case.

I have found another sock pattern without a photo. One I didn't know about when I first signed up for this KAL and went looking for sock pattterns without photos. SO....... when the next Mystery Sock KAL begins I know which one I am going to do. Others may have seen it completed but I haven't and the pattern doesn't have a photo. My next choice has been made.

Ummmmmmmmm *looks around guiltily*... my socks did get pushed to the bottom of a WIP bag. I remembered them yesterday.
They got pushed into the bag because knitting worsted weight Woolease on small needles is not fun. Perhaps I should not have gone for authenticity and used another yarn. Oh well.

I will get them done this week. Honest and for true.

YIPEE!!!! They're Finally Done
I have completed my socks. If I had to complete them by an earlier date I am sure I would have also but I liked having this extra time as I was working on so many other projects.
First I didn't use the original yarn I had chosen and second I decided on a different pattern.
In a swap I received some purple Cascade Fixation (I can't get it here where I live) which I used and I did the Holey Socks aka Ellie's Eyelet Socks. I liked the pattern and even liked the Cascade Fixation yarn I used. The yarn is interesting being it is cotton and lycra.
I don't have a blog and since it is so close to the deadline I am adding my photos here. So don't peek if you don't want to know what they look like just yet. The only thing is the color didn't come accurately. They are purple not periwinkle blue. This was a fun KAL.

I'm starting to feel like the deadline on this KAL was a little too long. I wanted to give everyone plenty of time to knit around all the summer KALs that were going on, but I feel like the Mystery Socks are finding their way to the bottom of the WIP basket--particularly since we have only 30/108 pairs done. :( Say it ain't so, knitters!

There will still be a final prize drawing at the end of the KAL, but that's only about 3 weeks away (23 days to be exact)!! So go, go, go! :)

Near the end, I will also be compiling a site with pictures of all the mystery socks and links to their patterns. That way our little KAL can become a reference for other knitters who might want to knit the same socks--but with pictures! Yeah, I know, where's the fun/excitement/drama/insanity in that? *grin*

I present to you my big surprise. TA-DA!! I finished my Lacey Socks in Worsted Weight just in time. I realized that I should have knitted up a swatch before beginning the whole project because Schaeffer's Helene yarn is comparable to Lorna's Laces' Lion & Lamb. The black yarn on the top, heel, and toe is the discontinued Berroco's Softwist Bulky. I think I know why the yarn is not being made anymore; it splits A LOT. Besides the yarn color changes, the only tweaks I did to this pattern was using twisted stockinette on the heel flap and on the bottom of the toe. Bad news on this pair, though. I need to re-knit the first sock I did because it is 1) waaaay too big, and 2) I need to put the black ribbing on the top of the sock. Otherwise, I am happy with the results from what was originally this shot from last week in the yarn shown below. =:8

I finished my Mystery socks this weekend. I used the Leaves of Grass Anklet pattern (modified for a longer leg) and yarn I purchased at this year's Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival from Spirt Trail Fiberworks. Pictures can be found here.

Well, I am bummed about two of the patterns I have attempted. The first is the "Lacy Sock in Worsted-Weight Wool" found on Woolworks. At first I used 2 strands of fingering weight with size US2 as suggested. The sock leg looked so thick, it was like cardboard! After reading other patterns which used size US4 needles, my second attempt with my Schaeffer's Helene (half silk and half wool) looks so baggy. Before I threw the yarn and needles down in disgust, I decided to try something smaller and simpler.

When I starting knitting up the "Cable and Lace Baby Booties" I found on the Knit List website, again I was disappointed. This time, the pattern did not make sense after row 8!

HELP!!! I wanted my first real pair of (adult) socks to be Mystery Socks. I have knitted up baby socks without issue, but I may be over my head. :(

BOO! Seems like the KAL has been pretty quiet lately. . . Just wanted to throw a little teaser your way. To go along with the Mystery theme, anyone who finishes her mystery socks by 11:59pm (PST) on Halloween will be entered into a prize drawing for some spooky good stuff! :) Katrina has generously donated some yarn for prizes and I have been stocking up on little goodies, too. Hey everyone! This was such a fun KAL! I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's mystery socks take shape!
Check out my Ocean socks! They were really fun and fast to make. The stitch pattern came out really well I think and was easy to memorize. If you're still trying to decide (and if you haven't peeked! ;) ) on a pattern I highly recommend this one!

I finally finished my aran braid socks. They are pictured on my blog. They turned out nicely, and I would make these again. The only thing I may try differently next time is to make the transition from the braid on the leg to the cable running down the foot a little more smooth.

Well after a month and a half wait between knitting the first and the second sock- I give you my finished Mystery socks.! I am really glad to have finished them, as they were not my favourite knit, but i like them now they are done. They are in Koigu and use the mini cabled sock pattern available here. hello all! i signed up back in august, and then promptly got very busy with other things. BUT! all is good, as i have finally picked a pattern, and will be working on the socks over the next couple of weeks.

i've selected the smocked socks (aka "sock pattern, sort of") pattern. so far i think only one other participant, costume chick has selected it, and i was very good and didn't look at her photos. =] not sure what yarn i'll be using yet, i'll post more details soon!

I've completed my Mystery Socks. I knit the lacysocks by jp, using Brown Sheep Wildfoote in solid Lilac. The yarn was a gift from Joan (included in my box of birthday swap swag), and was a delight to knit! Pictures of the completed socks here.

My Toe-Up Socks are done!

My venture into the Mystery Sock KAL involved two knitting desires: 1.) I wanted to make socks for my boyfriend, and 2.) I wanted to try my first toe-up sock.

After searching through all those patterns-without-pics, I happened upon this pattern, the Toe Up Sock by Mary Sherman Lycan. The sock uses a Sherman toe and Sherman heel. Mary Sherman Lycan explains that she named this type of short row after her "late father, Rallston Sherman, an inventor. He always said an inventor is someone who is too lazy to do things the right way." And thus Mary came up with the Sherman short row as an alternative to the short rows that use yarnovers or wraps.

My boyfriend loves his socks! They fit him nicely, and I have a feeling that I'll be making many more socks for him and many more socks using Mary's pattern.

My Aran Braid Socks Are Done!

I finished the other day and am just now getting around to posting pics on my blog. I really liked this pattern, but I didn't think the transition from the braid on the leg to the small cable on the foot was as smooth as it could be. I'm not experienced enough to know how to fix it either, but it still looks okay. These are a gift for my mother for Christmas! They look big on me because I have smaller feet than her. One thing I really liked was the heel flap. I haven't knit too many socks so the woven look (as I'm calling it) was interesting. I used Fortissima Socka for this pair.

Mystery Solved!

Here are my mystery socks--I used Karen’s Sugar-Free Sock pattern, designed by Chrissy: remember I had the pattern without the photo? Well I knit without looking at anyone else’s photo and they turned out terrific. I must admit, although I appear to be successful at knitting without a photo, it was really hard!! Don't forget, if you want to support diabetes research, buy the pattern, and knit them up--it won't be a mystery for you, but you'll love them!

My Mystery Socks are done! Pic on the blog. The pattern was Summer Garden Socks. It has a unique construction by knitting the garter stitch cuff separately, then picking up around the bottom and knitting down. It also alternates one solid skein of yarn with a variegated one. You can tell why I was so intrigued with this pattern! I really enjoyed watching the socks take shape, and they fit like a dream! :)

I did it! I finished my Lacy Socks the other day and they turned out pretty well. I am not a big fan of socks in worsted weight or cuff down patterns but these are better than I thought they would be. My toe grafting is terrible which is why they look so bad but overall I like them.

My Mystery Socks are done too!! I really enjoyed choosing a pattern with no picture and seeing what knit up. However, I'm not really in love with how my socks turned out. The pattern called for Wool-Ease, but I used some Hill Country Instant Gratification I had in my stash. In retrospect, I think a solid yarn would have worked much better. These weren't my intended first pair of Mystery Socks, but they truly fit the mystery sock profile. I test knit a pair of socks for Knittin' Mom, without seeing a photo of them, until I had finished them.

Done!

The Holey Socks were completed Sunday night to much fanfare; you can check out the finished product on my blog here. They were knit on size US1 dpns using the now discontinued KnitPicks Sock Landscape in the Tropical Sunrise colorway. I had to modify the pattern a bit to go with my gauge: I added one pattern repeat, forcing me to do my own math on the heel and whatnot, but I think I'm getting better at this.

I've really enjoyed this KAL. While the pattern wasn't one of my favorites, I've become much more comfortable with picking patterns without photos and on making adjustments if the need arises. The socks themselves go into my holiday gift cache and are earmarked for someone on Boy's side of the family with slightly bigger feet than me.

Just wanted to update that my mystery sock is on hold till I get some different (solid color) yarn. I started Lacy Socks in Claudia's Handpaint but the variegated greens are obscuring the lace pattern. Hi Everyone! I posted progress of my Mystery sock on my blog. I am much happier with the fit this time around. Instead of casting on 64 stitches like the pattern called for, I cast on 72. Since the stitch repeat is 32 stitches, I added 2 knit stitches at the beginning and end of each repeat. It's working out great.

Hi. I got my mistery sock and here's my progress picture. Rustic Arrow I am using the Purple from Wool Ease, with size 2 circular needle. One needle two socks. Started, at last!

I've gotten a lot of sock knitting done over the last few days, including casting on for my lacysocks. I'm using Wildfoote Luxury Sock Yarn in a delicious shade of lavender, yarn I received from Joan in my August Birthday Swap package. At first the k2togethers gave me fits, but since I switched to my aluminum dpns it's been a breeze. Guess the bamboo points just weren't sharp enough.

Anyhow, I really like the way this simple pattern is shaping up. These are going to be pretty socks! For a picture of the first sock in progress, check out my blog. They're at the end of the Sept 11 entry.

After careful swatching and a complete leg, I've decided to frog my Mystery sock. I'm loving the design (Leaves of Grass Anklet) but I fear it is too small. I am planning to start over though, this time I'm going to add a few more stitches when I cast on.

Okay, I decided what to do. I have been noodling around on what pattern to knit for the Mystery Sock KAL, and now I know. I am part of Chrissy’s clan of test knitters, and she had a pattern for testing, without a photo. On top of this, it involves cables, which, can you imagine, I have never even worked?!?!! So, this cashmerino (well, some of it) will become a pair of mystery socks--

But here’s another twist--Chrissy has named these socks "Karen's Sugar-Free Diabetes Walk Socks", and for $5 a copy, you can purchase the pattern (it does include a photo!!) with all the proceeds from the sales going towards Karen'spledge drive for diabetes. Marvelous, huh? Hurry, and get it because the sale ends the day of the walk, October 15th. Doing this will allow you to make a marvelous contribution, and knit a marvelous pair of socks! For me, I will be using the test pattern, without the photo (I promise!)--

I have been working on the Elizabethan stockings, and while I still have a long way to go, I am enjoying the pattern so far. I haven't gotten to the "clocks" yet, and that'll be the real test as to whether or not I like these stockings. There is a pic on my blog. pixie-purl.blogspot.com. ( I don't know how to do those nifty link things...sorry!). So far, I enjoy the pattern and the yarn is wonderful (knit Picks Gloss in color dusk). Is anyone else doing this pattern? I know stockings are a bit much to take on as a mystery pattern, but I am enjoying them so far anyway!

The first Holey Sock is done!

The pattern was not nearly as complicated as it looked once I got started. I did it with some KnitPicks merino sock yarn and size 1's, so I had to increase on pattern repeat. The sock reminds me a lot of that bible story about Jerico; the holes in the columns look like the tower windows in the picture book our religious-nut landlord gave us when I was 8.

Now onto sock #2!

I, uh, almost started. I cast on for some cable socks (one of the knitlist patterns, I think, but am too lazy to check.) Thought I was being so clever using leftover yarn. Until I realized I didn't actually have enough. Worsted weight ankle socks are just not for me.

I found a good old fashioned sock mystery last night. Woot! It's a waffle rib pattern and it's new to me. I will be using Knitpics sock yarn in chocolate. Sadly, I can't seem to find the link at this time. My computer crashed right after I printed the pattern due to a lightning strike. The good news is I have a pattern now!

I finished my socks! I used the Koigu Ruffles pattern. There's a picture of them here. They were a pretty easy knit, although the p3tog was a bit tough.

Overall I liked the pattern OK, but my mom just LOVED them, so I gave the socks to her.

I finished my mystery socks over a week ago. I'm very picky about my socks so I did my favorite toe and heel but kept the Leaves of Grass lace pattern.

The yarn is Spunky Eclectic Super Sock yarn in Green Gables.

Hey everyone! I finished my Mystery Socks last night. I used the Shell Sock pattern from Knitaddicted for these. I'm happy with the results, and how easy this pattern was to work. I'm a newbie to sock knitting. (Ok, these were my third pair!) I like the end result, and wouldn't mind doing these again. Next time I think I'll do them in a solid color, instead. My unabandonable socks are now finished, and the preferred color scheme of the soles can be seen here. This yarn is delightful, and goes a long way. I probably have enough left for yet another pair!

I am now working to finish at least the first of my daughter's Forgotten Knee Socks, as it is resting on my #2 circulars, and I need them for my next pair. Maybe if she sees one lonely little sock laying there, she'll be racked with guilt and ask that I make the other one, too.

Hi. I decided to pick the pattern call 'Rustic Arrow Socks', I got two ball of purple Sport Weight Wool Ease and starting tonight and I will post progress picture on my Blog in few days. I made a chart from the Pattern and it looks interest patterns. -Esther

HI all! I'm sneaking in to report I started my mystery sock. I'm doing the Aran Braid sock. I'm using some really nice Cormo Yarn that I dyed myself. It is so soft and I love knitting with it, I just don't know if I love the pattern. But I shall stick to it. I currently have four pairs of socks on my needles. I can't start another one. pattern changed due to last post- when i forgot to turn the heel.

I'm not too fond of this pattern so may change my mind (again!) and start a 3rd mystery sock.

I finished my mystery socks. They are nothing compared to some of the pretty ones that others are making but I enjoyed the quick and simple knitting. Check them out HERE. The only things that were really a "mystery" about these socks were the toe (which I'd never done or seen before) and the gauge. I've never made socks on size 7 needles before! What they lack in elegance they make up for in instant gratification. They're warm and snuggly too.

Hey guys. I've finished a pair of the Viv's Lacy Socks, pictures and details on my blog. I actually finished these about a week ago, but I've been exceptionally lazy about updates. They turned out VERY soft and comfortable to wear. Hooray for Schaefer Yarn. :) I was a little worried about the mohair content (I usually find mohair itchy), but they're a joy to wear.

It's been a blast participating, and I absolutely love the idea. I may have to start looking for more pictureless patterns!

I have finished the first My-Sock-and-I-Won't-Abandon-It sock. The pattern I used was a simple spiral rib, which, I know, isn't much of a mystery. But the other pictureless patterns at my disposal are being made by others here, and, well, I've had a peek or two. So, the mystery here came from the yarn. This is striping yarn, yes, but the stripes are wonderfully random. I'll post a photo here ASAP.

Wouldn't you know it, my favorite combination of colors is on the bottom of the sock! Well, there's a second one to come --- maybe those colors will appear topside!

SO I started the Elizabethan stockings and knitted about an inch before thinking that they looked kind of big...so I looked back at the needle size and realized that it said 2 mm NOT sz 2. Grrr. So I frogged em back and I have to start again on sz 0 this time...
A couple of things. So far I am loving the Knit Picks Gloss yarn. It is very soft and stretchy enough but not too stretchy(if that makes sense). I won't know for sure until I have knitted with it more, but so far I really like it for a sock yarn. It is much nicer than some of the wool/nylon blends I've used. Did I mention it's really soft?
Also, if anyone else is doing this pattern, there seems to be an error when you get to the decreases. The directions say to decrease every 4th row and then in the example it gives, it has decreases on almost every row. Given that it is the knee decreases that this is for, I assume that I should follow the directions and not the example. I guess I'll find out when I actually get to that point!

These are Ruth Gerstner's Smocked socks. (Although she calls them the "sock pattern, sort of") I have decided that since she recommends choosing your favorite foot, heel, and toe method, that I would choose toe up. The recipient of these lovelies want them as long as possible, so toe up is the way to go! I am using Addi size 2 needles, and Gedifra Fashion Trend Sportivo, color 5769. It is a varigated yarn that has two khaki strands twisted with a varigated strand that goes from blue to green to grey, to maroon - very slowly. It's like a "fade in and out" - as my husband said.

I 'll post some pictures when I get to the good stuff, and past the miles of dull for my size 10 friend.

Well, I started my aran-braid socks! I have a pic in today's post over at my blog. I forgot to say over there, the yarn I'm using is Regia Stretch, in browns and blues. I am enjoying these socks so much, and I see no end to the amusement the braid pattern is providing. I want to put it on everything, lol.

My daughter (14, which figures prominently in the story) loves knee socks. When I signed up for this KAL, I knew I had the perfect kick-start for making a pair, or two, or three, for her.

Ever try to wrangle a teenager over to a computer screen to look at and pick out yarn? Pull some teeth instead. Finally get some yarns chosen. She wants to know about the pattern, which I explain has to be a mystery. Kind of intriguing to her, but mostly she just wants to get back to her anime.

So I wait for the yarn, I find a mystery pattern, and cast on. Daughter, realizing what is going on, announces that she is displeased with how things are going.

Told you 14 played a part.

I have a one-third-finished-sock that no one is going to wear, apparently. This quashes any sock-knitting-desire momentarily, you know? But I'll pull it back together. And pick another mystery pattern, and choose some yarn that is pretty, and make myself a sock.

(Hey, 46 can set a jaw, too!)

So my yarn came from Knit Picks...

It is Knit Picks Gloss in color Dusk. It is a really pretty dark blue and I think it will work out nicely for the Elizabethan stockings (I hope anyway!). I am hoping to start them this week, although I am knitting a sweater for my LYS in a knit for yarn trade off, so that is my top priority right now. As long as I get the back done tomorrow, I can reward myself with a little knitting for myself and start these socks!

Garter Lattice Socks from the Knitlist are the "mystery" socks I have decided to knit.

Hello everyone! I had originally planned to make the Leaf Lace (or is it Lace Leaf?) socks or else Viv's Lacy Socks till I saw that these already seemed to be popular choices and I didn't want it to be thought I was just a follow-the-leader, LOL! So I went with my third choice and that is the Garter Lattice. I will probably knit them toe-up, though, and am using handspun wool yarn.

I wanted to say that I agree with Stariel's request that we have a link to photo's of socks so that we can chose whether or not to look at the pattern as it is worked, rather than posting the photos here. That will help keep it a mystery! That said, I am also enjoying seeing all of the lovely socks everyone is knitting. (Speaking of Stariel, check out the neat sock she knit for me in a different Sock-along! You can see it at here at my Serenity Farms blog)

Maybe we could have a set date that after it comes we can begin to post here to this blog?

I am having trouble finding a pattern that is done on 2 circulars for a larger calf. I got about 4" done on a nice pattern but it was way too narrow so I frogged and added an amount of extra stitches to do the pattern and they are way too big! I have to frog them too. Any suggestions for larger calf size 8 1/2 wide foot?

Well, I've finally decided on the ever-popular Leaves of Grass pattern. I'll be using Dale of Norway Tiur in color 8533, which is a nice grassy green. I hope to cast on soon and expect to finish the socks by the deadline, not within a couple of days after declaring my intentions. I'm a slow knitter. So we'll see how it goes. Hi! I'm Tam and this is my first time posting for the KAL. I have started my mystery socks using THIS pattern. It seemed mysterious enough to be a surprise to me and it seemed like it would go quick since it uses two strands of worsted weight yarn held together. Here is my progress so far:
I am using some very nice alpaca yarn that I got from Elann. I hope it's not too itchy! Yes, I am oh so skillfully using 3 dpns and 1 set of circular needles. I couldn't find enough size 7 dpns to make a set. I usually only use dpns this size to make I-cord (only using 2 at a time) so the sets tend to get separated and never reunited. Hence the added circular.

I'm enjoying everyone else's posts and hope to have some serious progress to show after the weekend.

Hello everyone! I'm new and haven't posted yet. I've been looking for a sock pattern that doesn't call for worsted weight yarn. I really like knitting my socks with fingering weight. Seems like all the ones without pictures are chunkier weight socks. So I decided to knit the Aran-braid socks and make them longer, I'm not fond of ankle socks. Hopefully I won't see anybody's before I'm done. I like the idea of it being a surprise. I think to ensure that, I will just check back in when I have my first one done. It may be a while since I have four pairs of socks on my needles currently. Yikes! Happy knitting!

I cast on for my Leaves of Grass sock on Monday.

A photo and short synopsis are in my blog here.

Also, I think there's an error in the pattern. Has anyone else noticed that the P3 on row 8 of the lace pattern should probably be changed to P2? I ended up with an extra stitch on the lace panel the first time around so I changed it to P2 for the following sets. I'm 12 repeats into my first sock and the pattern seems to be fine with that small change. I'd be curious to know if the rest of you are doing the same thing or if you had success with the P3.

Okay, so I like Stariel's idea of just posting links to your progress pics (at least for awhile) so that folks who haven't started/finished yet can retain a little mystery for their socks-to-come. Maybe we'll have a show & tell towards the end when it can be a picture posting free for all! :) Actually, I'd like to make some photo collages of all the sock styles (one page of all the Aran Braids, for example).

I know not everyone has a blog, so if you're totally dying to post your socks, that's what this is for, and I don't really feel like I should keep you from doing so. But if you can help to suspend the mystery for the others for a little while longer, I'm sure it'd be appreciated! *grin*

And I am just starting my socks tonight, so I'm totally in awe of all you speedy needles out there! You rock!!:)

Can I make a suggestion? Don't hate me! Could we have everyone post links to their photos instead of the actual photo on the blog? Because this is supposed to be all mysterious and everything, and for those of us who haven't started our socks we might want to keep the pattern a mystery!

Now, as for me, I'm going to start my mystery socks pretty soon. My friend borrowed my ball winder, so I'm going to wait til I get it back from her, then wind my yarn and begin. I've decided to do the Koigu Ruffles pattern.

Mystery sock #1 complete and....

I hate it. The pattern looks like the eighties to me. I don't know if it's the geometric feel of it, or the poofiness, or what. But I don't get it. It has no cohesiveness to me. And I made the foot too small. And the ribbed shaping on the sole comes to late to be arch shaping. I don't know... I'm so disappointed, I don't think I'll make the second one. Maybe I'll search around for another pattern. Or maybe I'll just do the Aran braid. Not much of a mystery anymore, but I love how everyone's have turned out.

I'm trying to find a pattern for 8 sts/ inch with an 8.5" foot circumference - for my mum - so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love 'em forever ;D

Well, I have one finished. Now I am on a hiatus until I finish my friend's last minute wedding shawl. I really need to get the Cast on done for the second sock, then I will be able to pick it up and whip out a few rows when the mood strikes. Besides, I'm getting to the part of the shawl with the REALLY LONG rows, and I hate stopping in the middle of a row... so socks are a good filler project for the occasional 15 minute knitting opportunity. anyhoo, on to the pics!

I really am enjoying this pattern - it is a really quick knit. It is another Viv's Lacey Socks, in Brown Sheep Wildefoot. I am knitting it with no modifications, so what you see is what you get!

I'm moving right along! I think I have about 3 more repeats before I start the heel. This is the Knit List Get-Together Cable Sock in Caron Simply Soft (Country Blue). I've tries it on a couple of times and wish it was a bit bigger but I think it will be ok.

Yesterday, I got the bug and started on my mystery socks - they went really fast with Merino 2000 from Lana Grossa. It's not really a sock yarn, but since those were the last two balls from a frogged huge cardigan (the others ended up a lovely baby blanket, LOL) and I mean to wear them around the house for toasty toes only, it's fine.

The pattern is the shell sock pattern from knitaddicted.com

It was an interesting experiment, and I'll certainly try this again in the future. But first, once the yarn finally arrives, another pair of Baudelaire's for my mother and then Eunny's Chuck's Cabled Socks

Well, I'll keep checking in to see how everyone else's have turned out and maybe I'll add another mystery sock to the list if I come across an intriguing pattern.

I've finished my Mystery Socks. I posted a picture of one earlier (I got excited to have one done), but now they are both done. These are great socks and I can see myself making another pair. I would recommend them to any other sock lovers out there. I sometimes get bored doing the foot because it is the same thing over and over again. This sock keeps it interesting by continuing the cable down the foot until you start the toe. A lot of fun to make, and a good looking sock too.

Thanks for doing this KAL. I found a great new sock, and am hoping to find more as people post their finished socks.

I think I've decided on my pattern. I believe I will make Obstacle Socks from Knitlist. I followed the rules and did not click on the link to the picture!! I may use some Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Rainbow, but I'm not sure yet! (That's the thing about knitting something that you don't know what it looks like -- how will the yarn suite it?) I have a couple of things to finish up before I start these.

Hi! My name is Nyasha from darnkit, and I am still deciding on my pattern of choice. As this will be my second pair of socks, it really is a mystery whether or not they will even come out right.

I have a few choices and they are as follows:

a) Knit List cabled sock pattern

b) Mini Cabled Socks

c) Mock Cable Socks

d) Leaves of Grass

I have enough yarn to do any of these patterns. So, once I make up my mind, I will let you know.

I've finished one of Viv's Lacy Socks, and it seems to have turned out reasonably well. I have to say, after seeing pictures of the Aran Braid socks, I almost wish I'd done those instead!

The pattern is relatively simple, although the first read-through was a little confusing. I changed the heel to make it a reinforced heel, but I did keep the toe. It's quite possibly the longest toe I've ever knit - I think I prefer a shorter one. All in all, a cute little pattern, but probably not memorable enough to make a second pair from.

I had orignally thought about doing the Aran Braid sock but after seeing how many people were doing those I changed my mind. After trawling the net for a while I have decided on Grown-Up Wonky Lace Socks. I chose these as a) wonky sounds like Wonka, which equals chocolate. and b) i've been meaning to use Cascade Fixation for a while and now I have a reason. I won't be starting mine for a couple of weeks yet, just as well as I haven't got the yarn yet. Now which colour(s) do I choose.

Hi, I just signed up today - and I am excited to rediscover one of the patterns that I have passed on in the past due to lack of a picture.
I was thinking of this pattern: Sara's Treasure Forest Socks (pdf)
I've had it printed for awhile, but I never did it because it only has a sketch, not a real photo of what they look like.
Anyone have any input on whether they think this would count?
